Diagnostic medical sonography is a medical procedure used to take images of various body parts of a human body. These parts may include- blood flow, soft tissues, bones, and other organs. A diagnostic medical sonographer needs to interact with the patients in which one needs to take sonography or ultrasound scan of the various parts of the body such as- abdomen, breasts, blood vessels, heart, female reproductive system, or to detect the internal disease.   • Medical sonography isn’t just for pregnancy- Many people have this misconception that the medical sonographer only deals with the pregnancy. But the reality is that they need to take images of various other body parts also. This diagnostic procedure also works with various other diagnostic procedures such as- MRI, CAT scan, X-ray and other forms of diagnostic nuclear medicine. This helps doctors to identify the internal health problems precisely. They play an important role and are required before performing the surgical procedures such as operation, etc.
  • In diagnostic sonography, the sound waves are used to create the image of the different internal body parts. It uses the sound waves of 20,000 Hz which is not audible. The frequency of these sound waves is quite high, that is why it is also called "ultrasounds". 
  • Many people get confused between the ultrasound and sonogram. As both are used interchangeably. Those who have such misconception must know the difference. In ultrasounds,  sound and vibrations are used to form an image of the body part whereas sonogram is a medical image created after the ultrasound procedure.
  • Excellent Job Growth- Choosing a DMS as a career option is an excellent choice. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a 39 percent job growth in the profession of a DMS by 2020, which is much above the average of other medical professions.
  • Can work at the various workplace- After completing the diagnostic medical sonography training program one can work at various places such as- clinics, hospitals, public health facilities, laboratories, and other medical centers. Moreover, one can work either full time or part-time basis.
